Challenges and Opportunities for Stonegate

Over years Stonegate invested heavily in expanding their business estate and growing their business with a mix of both managed and leased bars. Scaling from 333 pubs to 4,500 sites, the group had an ever-growing energy footprint which had growing costs and environmental concerns. With limited estate control hardware and software, accessing data and controlling the growing estate centrally became a challenge.

As part of any investment in this space however, Stonegate wanted to ensure their pub teams still had localised control all while benefiting from automated control at scale across the estate to access untapped cost reductions.

As a result, Stonegate had significant opportunities to:

  • Invest in the hardware infrastructure of the estate to get better visibility of asset level data and control assets remotely and centrally.
  • Find a flexible technology solution that would provide teams with dynamic localised and remote control at different periods throughout the day through automated rule setting.
  • Lower the over environmental impact of their pubs, in turn ensuring the business were leading the way in the industry toward net zero and ESG commitments.
  • Step out as market leading in sustainable innovation in hospitality.

The Solution

To exploit these opportunities, Stonegate launched a new partnership with LoweConex in October 2022, rolling out a combined hardware and software approach across a number of pubs to connect, visualise, and control their HVAC units. Working with Stonegate, LoweConex was able to:

  • Install IoT gateways across the estate, providing connections to historically disconnected assets that were controlled manually.
  • Connect all HVAC systems in those pubs to an integrated software that enabled data visibility and dynamic two-way control.
  • Implement two-way control, allowing for variable setpoint control in different settings across the estate.
  • Introduce flexibility in setpoint automation to enable certain locations to take localised control to suit the needs of the venue as its service rotated or changed.
  • Achieve significant energy reduction in the newly connected estate through setpoint lockdown and control, reducing costs and carbon footprint.

""LoweConex have been a crucial partner in identifying optimisation opportunities in our estate, and are helping us achieve unmet energy reduction with significant potential to scale the impact and further our reduction for years to come.""
