Challenges and Opportunities

Charles Tyrwhitt are committed to their sustainability journey, and since 2021 have set themselves an ambitious target to reduce organisational emissions by 5% year-on-year. In 2025, the organisation have been certified by Planet Mark for a fifth year running, working hard to ensure they consistently meet reduction targets and fulfil their sustainability goals.

A large portion of Charles Tyrwhitt’s organisational emissions lay in their estate, and they typically faced challenges such as:

  • Limited control over estate assets which were driving energy consumption and emissions upward.
  • Lack of visibility of asset and energy performance which was making it hard to pinpoint reduction opportunities to align to goals.
  • No BMS and market controls system did not offer price flexibility for smaller stores.
  • Energy costs increasing and business needed to reduce consumption to reduce store variable costs and drive profitability.
  • Opportunity to adopt IoT technology to monitor unconnected assets, understand operational performance better and streamline maintenance and quality processes.

The Solution

Charles Tyrwhitt adopted both LoweConex software and IoT hardware to streamline HVAC monitoring and control in all of their stores. Working with LoweConex, Charles Tyrwhitt implemented the following changes across their business estate:

  • Installed IoT gateways on every disconnected HVAC unit in the estate to offer connectivity to the LoweConex Software Platform.
  • Ingested all HVAC operational performance data, observed data and triaged issues across the estate to be addressed rapidly.
  • Worked with LoweConex Bureau to roll out a series of proven automation rules that would reduce HVAC energy consumption all while maintaining a comfortable customer experience.
  • Continuously optimised the estate over time through continuous monitoring to grow reduction opportunities.

"Our investment in LoweConex paid off rapidly through significant energy cost savings, providing payback within 18 months. As we set targets to reduce emissions and energy waste, we noticed HVAC was a significant contributor to consumption. LoweConex enabled us to connect those assets in a cost-effective way where BMS was unsuitable, in turn lowering CapEx and enabling scalable two-way control to eliminate energy waste in the estate."
